Maryland Pennslyvania Transcontinental Bike Trip

Today’s Problem

It would seem, given our recent experiences, that biking flat-free from Gettysburg, PA to Hagerstown, MD on the most flawless day of our trip would be sheer bliss. Right? Wrong.

Oh yes, there were the mountain-backed battlefield scenes south of Gettysburg, the humidity-free autumn air in the mid-Atlantic hardwood forests and the long down-hill glides into Hagerstown.

Our problem: we were getting tanned on only one side. That’s right, when you bike west this time of year, the sun is always in the southern sky and we’re getting very brown on our left side, and still pale on the right. And to make matters worse we also have helmet-head. Yep, that’s tanned neck, ears, cheeks (only on the left side, of course) and a pale crown. And it’s really affecting our identities.

How can biker-studs Mickey and Johnny, both sunscreen users, have tanned ports and pale starboards? Can the intrepid bikers solve this most pressing issue?

To be continued.

Tan ports, pale starboards. Aren’t you mixing your sport metaphors? Ah, to have such problems! Nice pic.
